The Ohio State University at Newark May 2020 On behalf of The Ohio State University at Newark, I want to thank our faculty and staff, students, community members, and Buckeyes wherever you may be, for all that each of you is doing to alleviate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).While this unprecedented situation continues to evolve, we understand that its impacts are being felt in every aspect of your lives, as they are in every aspect of the university’s daily work. The health and safety of members of our campus and broader community are always our highest priority, and shortly prior to the announcement of Gov. Mike DeWine’s Stay-At- Home Public Health Directive, Ohio State had transitioned all of its business functions to a modified model. All employees, except a few essential to providing critical services, are providing university services remotely. All classroom instruction had also already transitioned to a remote format for the remainder of the semester and has been extended for the summer 2020 term. I know that these decisions have brought both disruption and challenge, and I especially thank our faculty and staff for your patience and resourceful spirit in finding creative solutions together to continue advancing the university’s academic mission. We appreciate the sacrifices that healthcare workers, first responders and those continuing to work in needed service industries are making to ensure the health, safety and well- being of our communities. Thank you also to all who are staying at home, social distancing and using best hygiene practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Your actions are essential during this unprecedented crisis. We also understand that this is a precarious time for our community partners’ organizations. Please know that Ohio State Newark will do whatever it can to support you now and when this crisis ends. For those who can pay forward, there are many ways to help. Ohio State Newark’s student emergency grants (to donate go to: buckeyefunder.osu.edu/project/20553 ) provide financial support for unexpected, temporary emergencies. Organizations such as the Licking County Food Pantry Network, the UnitedWay, American Red Cross and many others provide assistance to the most vulnerable in our communities. We are all experiencing uncertainty, and I encourage each of you to find time for yourself, to look out for each other, and to remember that our united actions can make a powerful difference. Stay well and stay safe. A Message from the Dean
