The Temperance Tunes of Susan Parkhurst Presenter: Paul D. Sanders, PhD, Professor, Music Education The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of Prohibition which outlawed the production, sale and transport of alcohol. For decades prior to 1920, temperance organizations sought to limit the devastating impact of “demon rum” on drinkers and their families. The music of Susan Parkhurst and other composers played an important role in these efforts. Paul D. Sanders, PhD, along with students, Logan Keevins and Aly Rollins and faculty member Edie L. Norlin will perform temperance songs by this fascinating composer and share more about her life and music. Free and open to the public. Questions?
